I have done a few still life paintings. One advantage is that the subjects don't move! The other is you can do it indoors.
I resisted the temptation to do this with a traditional dark background and made a more modern painting. No we didn't eat the crab it was smelling a bit by the time I finished. THe bottel we dug up in our garden in Brecon.
